Youth Ski Programs
We are pleased to offer 3 Youth Ski Programs:
The youth programs happen every second Saturday from 1:30-3:00 pm for as long as there is snow on the ground! We aim to facilitate fun family-centric recreational skiing through instruction and games.
Our starting program is:
Ski Bunnies (minimum age 3)
Ski Bunnies is a parent/family supported program designed for preschool through kindergarten-aged children (minimum age 3).
This supported approach is designed to give the children exposure to the equipment, trails and to develop a love for the outdoors.
Bunnies must be accompanied by an adult or teen wearing skis or snowshoes on the trails. Snowshoes and some skis are available at the clubhouse for adult member use.
Jackrabbits 1 (Grades 1 & 2)
The Jackrabbit Program is an instructional based program designed to further skills, practice on trails and not quite so hands-on.
Parents and caregivers are still welcome to join in on the class on skis.
Jackrabbits may float between groups (Jackrabbits 1 or Jackrabbits 2) depending on their skill level, and some days both groups are combined for the class.
Jackrabbits 2 (Grade 3)
The Jackrabbit Program is an instructional based program designed to further skills, practice on trails and not quite so hands-on.
Parents and caregivers are still welcome to join in on the class on skis.
Jackrabbits may float between groups depending on their skill level, and some days both groups are combined for the class.
Program information from Nordiq Canada can be found at https://nordiqcanada.ca/skiers-and-programs/youth-programs/
Program Rates:
Family membership ($200/family) is required for all Bunnies and Jackrabbits, with an additional $10/child registration fee for youth programming.
Schedule:
The coaches post updates to the schedule on the Hay River Ski Club’s Facebook page, so please do check that site regularly.
Weather Warnings:
We do NOT have a cold-weather cutoff; however, when the wind and/or temperatures are severe, we spend a shorter time outside and return to the clubhouse for group activities.
Equipment Use for Programs:
Although there is equipment for children to use while at the ski club, the equipment must remain at the clubhouse. There is also some equipment available for parents to use on a first-come/first-serve basis.
Last but not least! Your family membership provides you with access to the ski club all winter, so please enjoy these world-class ski trails as much as possible!
